News: Lowkey Quits Music

Lowkey, the rapper-slash-political activist, has chosen to hang up the microphone to focus his efforts elsewhere. The MC released his first mixtape, Key To The Game, way back in 2003 and after running the series for three instalments stepped away from the scene, only to return in 2009 with his album Dear Listener and last year's Soundtrack To The Struggle.

Never one to bite his tongue, Lowkey modelled himself as UK hip hop's number one dissident, taking scathing potshots at everyone from weapons developer BAE Systems to president Obama.

In his words: “After many months of contemplation I have decided to step away from music and concentrate on my studies. Maybe at some point I will get back into it again but at this stage I feel I should direct my energy in different, more helpful directions. The ego is a destructive thing and I feel this business and these social networks in particular have a tendency to feed it in an unhealthy way. I will be deactivating this page. Thank you for all those who have supported me over the years. See you on the other side people."
